Fun Facts about Gatorade

One summer, I used to work for Gatorade, so I just wanted to share some fun facts that you might not know. Also just a reminder, that water, gatorade, powerade, or haterade, whatever you want to call it - or just water mixed with salt and a banana are an important part of keeping the cramps low and just keeping hydrated.

*Gatorade is used by Usain Bolt. 'nuff said.

*The typical electrolyte level for 8 oz of gatorade is 110 mg sodium and 30 mg potassium
compare that to a banana - 467 mg of potassium and only 1 mg of sodium

*Gatorade actually has 7 different versions..with slight flavor differences in each
1. Gatorade Thirst Quencher aka Normal gatorade - the stuff that most people know about
2. Bring it aka gatorade fierce - enhanced with vitamin B to help with energy metabolism
3. be tough aka x-factor - vitamin e as an antioxidant
4. no excuses aka rain - not really what the difference is.. but apparently, it has no clean crisp aftertaste, its also clear..
5. shine on aka am - if you've watched the colbert report or was it jon stewart, but one of them harped on gatorade for making this because you might need gatorade as soon as you wake up, you might get dehydrated, but in addition to providing electrolytes, it also provides vitamin c.
6. focus aka gatorade tiger - this actually has less calories and carbs per 8 oz. with more sodium and potassium - 135 mg K and 40 mg Na. it also has theanine, an amino acid found in tea for mental focus and vitamin E. on paper, this would be the gatorade of choice. more electrolytes and vitamins! but in reality, i never really liked the flavor, so didnt work for me - the flavors are red drive (cherry), cool fusion (citrus), quiet storm (grape). and true force (berry blend)
7. G2 - another gatorade that looks great on paper, it has less calories and is enhanced with vitamins, its been advertised as the saturday athlete drink of choice. - comes in the following flavors: fruit punch, orange, grape, strawberry-kiwi, lemon lime, and blueberry-pomegranate.

*gatorade changed the names of flavors 3-6 in order to go with mantras set up by athletes themselves when they go about their normal practices and games as part of the "G" campaign, which states that athletes have heart, hustle and soul for the dedication of the sport..

^"If you have the passion and dedication to improve your game and challenge yourself to be your best, then you have the advantage and edge to be a "G."

*Gatorade contains sucrose, glucose, and fructose to balance absorption, which occurs rapidly due to the 6% carbohydrate ratio.

*The expiration date of unopened gatorade is 9 months. Open gatorade lasts only 3-5 days.
